چکیده

This paper presents a finite-element dimension splitting algorithm (DSA) for a three-dimensional (3D) elliptic equation in a cubic domain. The main idea of DSA is that a 3D elliptic equation can be transformed into a series of two-dimensional (2D) elliptic equations in the X–Y plane along the Z-direction. The convergence speed of the DSA for a 3D elliptic equation depends mainly on the mesh scale of the Z-direction. P2 finite-element discretization in the Z-direction for DSA is adopted to accelerate the convergence speed of DSA. The error estimates are given for DSA applying P1 or P2 finite-element discretization in the Z-direction. Finally, some numerical examples are presented. We apply the parallel solving technology to our numerical examples and obtain good parallel efficiency. These numerical experiments test and verify theoretical results.

A two-phase free boundary problem for a semilinear elliptic equation

In this paper we study a two-phase free boundary problem for a semilinear elliptic equation on a bounded domain $Dsubset mathbb{R}^{n}$ with smooth boundary‎. ‎We give some results on the growth of solutions and characterize the free boundary points in terms of homogeneous harmonic polynomials using a fundamental result of Caffarelli and Friedman regarding the representation of functions whose ...

A splitting scheme to solve an equation for fractional powers of elliptic operators

An equation containing a fractional power of an elliptic operator of second order is studied for Dirichlet boundary conditions. Finite difference approximations in space are employed. The proposed numerical algorithm is based on solving an auxiliary Cauchy problem for a pseudo-parabolic equation. Unconditionally stable vector additive schemes (splitting schemes) are constructed. Numerical resul...

New variants of the global Krylov type methods for linear systems with multiple right-hand sides arising in elliptic PDEs

In this paper, we present new variants of global bi-conjugate gradient (Gl-BiCG) and global bi-conjugate residual (Gl-BiCR) methods for solving nonsymmetric linear systems with multiple right-hand sides. These methods are based on global oblique projections of the initial residual onto a matrix Krylov subspace. It is shown that these new algorithms converge faster and more smoothly than the Gl-...

Highly parallel alternating directions algorithm for time dependent problems

In our work, we consider the time dependent Stokes equation on a finite time interval and on a uniform rectangular mesh, written in terms of velocity and pressure. For this problem, a parallel algorithm based on a novel direction splitting approach is developed. Here, the pressure equation is derived from a perturbed form of the continuity equation, in which the incompressibility constraint is ...
